My Story
Megan Bynum seldom resembles a stereotypical small-town girl. She grew up in Brownwood, Texas and attended school in Early ISD. Preoccupied with academics and grades, she began to search for a new defining facet of her life, participating in track and tennis, but her calling was in the performing and visual arts.
During her freshman year of high school, Megan started doing theatre productions on and behind the stage. She eventually realized that she found belonging among people that had a hunger for creating atmospheres that transcend audiences beyond their reality and experiences. Storytelling became her primary expression to the world, enabling her to connect with people and share various concepts.
Theatre was later accompanied by visual artistic expression as Megan enrolled in ceramics. Building three-dimensional pieces further allowed her to discover her personal intrinsic convictions and her connections to others. The hunger for producing work increased as she developed craft and conceptualization skills. This compelled her to search for a collegiate art program.
After researching and visiting numerous college campuses, Megan settled on Stephen F. Austin State University because of her immediate draw to Professor Eden Collins and her infectious passion for sculpture. Invigorated by the development of her artistic style and voice, she continues to make work and attain skills in craftsmanship, conceptualization, and more.
Work Experience
August 2020 - May 2024
October 2021 - May 2024
May 2024 -
In August of 2020, I began my first semester at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas. Pursuing a degree in art, I met many lifelong friends, spectacular professors, and my mentor, Eden Collins. I am currently still enrolled and considering graduate school.
During the month of October in my second year at SFA, I was invited by my professor and friend, Erik Ordaz Lozano, to work as a student employee at the Cole Art Center downtown as a gallery attendant. I am immensely grateful for the opportunity and value the experience.
After graduating in May of 2024, I plan to pursue graduate school or find a meaningful career in the Art World. No matter which decision I make, I will endeavor to prioritize my passion for art.
